/RESEARCH AREAS

Our research focuses on several key areas crucial to understanding and conserving marine ecosystems

Marine Invasive Species

The Marine Invasive Species research examines the distribution and impact of non-native species in Saudi waters, developing biosecurity frameworks to protect native biodiversity and identify key areas of concern.

Reef Cryptobenthic Diversity: Autonomous Reef Monitoring Structure (ARMS)

Reef cryptobenthic diversity refers to the hidden community of small organisms vital to coral reef ecosystems, monitored by the BEM Lab through ARMS devices that collect long-term, non-invasive data.

Ecosystem Function and Management

Investigate the intricate relationships between biodiversity and ecosystem function using integrated and standardized approaches. This research advances understanding of mechanistic processes, service provision, and economic valuation, providing essential insights for effective ecosystem management.

Discovery of Marine Biodiversity

Document biodiversity and build a reference collection in the KSA develop biosecurity frameworks to assess the distribution of non-native species, and identify areas of concern.

Responses of Species to Environmental Stressors

In situ/lab-based experiments to support the development of regulation and guide management actions to minimize negative impacts.
