Marcos Teixeira, a postdoc in the BEM Lab, was recently featured in a podcast with some international collaborators. What was the podcast about? We're glad you asked! Marcos and his colleagues Chloé Julie Loïs Fourreau (University of Ryukus, Japan) and Juan Sempere-Valverde (a visiting researcher in the BEM Lab) discuss the discovery of a new polychaete worm in the Red Sea, Perenereis kaustiana on the podcast New Species Podcast. They also chat about the two new records of other polychaetes in the Red Sea. Biodiversity is near and dear to us here in the BEM Lab and we are always curious what we may find on the next collection effort or under the next rock. As we always say, we cannot protect what we do not know.
If you'd like to hear Marcos, Chloé, and Juan discuss the discovery of Perinereis kaustiana in their own words, you can listen to the podcast here. It is available on Spotify, Apple podcasts, or wherever you choose to listen. We think science is best when shared, so you can access the publication for free here.
PS - If you were curious, yes, P. kaustiana is indeed named after our university!
